Talking Hizbullah Blues
For news updates about what's going on in Israel, I suggest you stay tuned to YNet news. I also recommend a recent editorial by Charles Krauthammer.
Yes, there is a war over here. My friends in the north and southwest of the country are feeling it more acutely, and some are settling into their bomb shelters for the night... I'm just following the news obsessively.
This evening my family had a long discussion about "who was bombing us and why." A lot of the conversation centered around whether we should cancel our camping trip up north, planned for the end of August (while my feeling is wait and see, Leora and Jacob have already declared they have NO intention of going anywhere near the action).
I have gotten a number of concerned emails from people abroad. One came from a new music contact, a woman I've never personally met, who wrote to say that she's praying for peace. I responded that I'm praying, too... but the fact is (and I'm not sure this is something she would understand) I'm also praying for an Israeli victory.
I believe that war is a tragedy. But I'm not an ideological pacifist. And if our neighbors have decided to challenge our right to live safely within our own borders, then this is a war that we have to win. If not, the Jewish nation could go the way of the Crusader Kingdom (which only lasted a hundred years, by the way).
I remember reading somewhere that Iran's loony-tunes president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is planning a surprise for the Zionist entity on August 22nd, which corresponds, in the Muslim calendar, to the day that Saladin wrested Jerusalem from the Crusaders.
Pray for peace. Yes, definately pray for peace.
