Day Camp Drop-Off
The other day I dropped Gilad off at his summer-time daycare... a big old farmhouse where the family runs camps for small kids. As I pulled away, I was flagged down by a local woman who needed a ride to the nearest intersection.
"You have a child at the farm?"
"Yep," I answered.
"I see they haven't hired an armed guard this summer," my passenger went on, referring to the ubiquitous security men that have been posted in most public places for the last few years.
"Well, I guess it's a sign that things have calmed down a bit," I said hopefully.
"There was a pigua (a bombing) this morning," she replied.
I felt that familiar clenching of the stomach. "How many?"
"Only one, baruch Hashem (thank God)."
Yes. She's right. Thank God.
