Those Wandering Jews
Here we are, smack in the middle of the Passover holiday, and Israeli wanderlust is at an all-time high. There are major traffic jams as families from all over the country seek out a little spot of green up north, or head south for some hiking in the Negev Desert. And of course, this time of year Israelis leave the country in inordinate numbers - to "family" destinations like Turkey, Cyprus, Disney World, as well as to more exotic places, where seasoned hikers can get back to nature.
But getting too far away from it all can be problematic for religious Jews. Some don't like to be far away from a synagogue, and kosher food can be hard to come by. With this in mind, a little company in Jerusalem - called Kosher Treks - has created a series of world-wide tours that help religious adventurers make their (spiritual) journey to places like Mount Kilamanjaro (Tanzania), the Otter Trail (South Africa) and the Great Glen Way (Scotland). Oh, yeah, and they do Mount Everest, too.
Check out their site - the pictures alone are worth the trip.
